I didn’t think you’d mind
That the sugar bowl was low.
I headed out with cake pans
and scooped batter from the snow.
We frosted it with flurries,
Sprinkled birdseed decorations,
Then found a twig-ish candle
To complete the celebration.
Happy Birthday Gracie!
You sang along with cheer.
Birthday blizzard celebrations
Then and now, year after year.

What a fun, imaginative poem, Cathy! And happy happy birthday to Grace!
Thanks Susanna. I’ve learned to anticipate these birthday blizzards and be more proactive with her cakes since then!
Snow is a great birthday present. The only thing better is your poetry.
Aww…She wrote a nice poem as well about penguins ‘waddling and troddling’ in the snow. Maybe someday she’ll allow me to post it!
Very creative and fun poem, Cathy! There is a story there.
Thanks Pat! It’s all about the Birthday Girl for sure.
A wonderful poem for a blizzardy birthday, Cathy! Happy, happy Birthday to Grace, 10 is awesome!
I agree – 10 is a terrific year! Thanks Heather.
Happy Birthday to Grace! Fun, clever poem, Cathy.
She had a fun, snowy day. Thanks for your good wishes Dana!
Snow is a glorious birthday present — I love your clever poem.
Thanks Katya. Snow is a present that she receives *almost* every birthday. Doesn’t seem as magical somehow!
Love it! This concept would make a fun PB too!
I wonder if kids with summer birthdays would appreciate it Julie? It’s practically our tradition now!
Very clever, Cathy! Gracie looks like she is having a very happy day!
Thanks Penny. She was one year old in that photo, and didn’t know that it was a postponed celebration. It was all about CAAAAAAKE! (as it should be!)
Happy birthday to Grace. Great poem.
Thanks for your good wishes Stacy. She had a happy day.
Happy Birthday to Grace! Adorable poem and a snow cake- what could be better? Did you fare well in the storm?
We did fare well – thank you. About 28 inches for us this time around!
Snow cake poem! Love it. Happy Birthday, Grace
!!
Thanks Jama. Grace now prefers chocolate cake to snow cake! Smart girl.
Happy double-digits birthday Grace!
Double digits is very grown up indeed! Thanks Erik!
Happy Birthday to Grace. A sweet and artistic soul. And to her mama, you know, for delivering the angel.
Aw – you are so sweet! Back to you – Mwah! xo
Cathy, I had to smile at this, most especially because my daughter turned 4 today! Happy birthday to Grace. I hope she had a nice birthday in all this snow.
Hurray – another snow baby! I hope you had a fun, snowy birthday celebration together as well. Four becomes 10 oh-so-quickly!
Sounds like a fun, creative cake for a birthday!!
It was nice to share a cake with the birds – they had a mid winter feast!
Wonderful poem! Birthday blizzards are the best!
Thanks Laura! She’s had birthday blizzards on a regular basis. I wonder if she’ll ever move to a warmer climate and miss having them??
Wonderful poem, Cathy!!!
You’re such a dear Catherine! I wish I were as prolific a poet as you!
Do you mean jobless with nothing else to do lol. I need to make some money this year. TX! By the way quality beats quantity, you’re better than me.
Rubbish – You are a clever, published poet!

Aw, how did I miss this adorable poem and photo?
You were having lots of fun sledding in Prospect Park I suspect!
And cocoa, mmmm…
Wonderfully clever of you to find ways to make a cake anyway, Cathy, complete with trimmings. Happy birthday to your daughter-special birthday for sure!
Thank you Linda!
What a fun story told in poetry form!
Yes, Mary – it worked when she was little, but now I’m expected to plan ahead if a storm is forecast for February 10th!
Super cute poem and picture, and Happy Birthday to her!
Thank you PPW!
